Japan is an island country in East Asia, located in the Pacific Ocean. It benefits from a highly skilled workforce and is among the most highly educated countries in the world, with one of the highest percentages of its citizens holding a tertiary education degree. Osaka is the third largest city with the population of over 2.5 million people in its great metropolitan area. It was formerly known as Naniwa and was briefly the capital of Japan. It has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for many centuries. From June to mid-September, summer begins at Japan and the weather is relatively hot and humid. Summer is the most festive time of the year in Japan with festivals throughout the country in all their colour, tradition and exuberance. Tenjin Matsuri Osaka's biggest summer festival filled with traditional costumes, spectacular processions and a celebratory atmosphere takes place at the end of July month. Osaka is a large port city and commercial center on the Japanese island of Honshu. It's known for its modern architecture, nightlife and hearty street food. Sumiyoshi-taisha is among Japan’s oldest Shinto shrines. The 16th-century shogunate Osaka Castle, which has undergone several restorations, is its main historical landmark. It's surrounded by a moat and park with plum, peach and cherry-blossom trees.
